The Naantali Spa recently grabbed a travel industry Oscar, picking up the award for Best Hotel in Finland at the international World Travel Awards Gala. We popped in for a visit to understand the background to this glittering victory.

Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards™ supports, promotes and develops the global hotel and tourism industry by recognising and awarding operators worldwide. Today, the World Travel Awards are considered to be one of the most prestigious accolades in the hospitality industry. There are a number of industry categories, from airlines to hotels and tour operators. Winners are decided by votes cast both by individual travellers and industry professionals.

Reason # 1: The Rooms

The winners of the World Travel Awards are decided by votes cast by both individual travellers and industry professionals.

When you need to rank a hotel, the cosiness of the room really boosts the ratings. Visitors to Naantali Spa can enjoy freshly remade rooms, with every room at the spa hotel completely renovated in the last couple of years (we popped our head into a few and they looked good). They’ve also upgraded the beds so you can really enjoy your sleep.

Accommodation options available range from Comfort rooms to the Presidential suites. For fans of the Moomins there’s even special Moomin-themed deluxe rooms.

Reason # 2: The Services

The Naantali Spa employee we talked with noted that the versatile services are the hotel’s trump card - so what’s available? Well, for example, there’s the spa, a gym, the beauty salon and a hairdresser, all under the same roof. Whether you desire a luxurious breakfast, a relaxing facial or a glass of bubbly in Cleopatra's milk and honey bath (yes - really!), Naantali Spa has it all.

Reason # 3: The Food

Naantali Spa also has a surprisingly diverse collection of restaurants. Instead of just one restaurant, the hotel complex includes several high-quality places to eat. Whether there for a day or a longer stay, you won’t run out of opportunities to taste something new. From the relaxed, family-friendly a la carte experience of Le Soleil, to the highly praised Asian cuisine served at the renowned Thai Garden. There’s plenty of variety for guests to try.

Reason # 4: The Location

Location, location and, once more, location. Naantali is a prime spot for a spa. The idyllic Naantali is both peaceful and yet conveniently located not far from Turku. And best of all, Moominworld is just around the corner. Just imagine, a spa hotel with tennis courts, a marina, and picturesque sea views, which on hot days can even arouse an exotic holiday feeling.

Reason # 5: The Staff

Last, but certainly not least, there’s the staff. After chatting to hotel employees it became quite clear how much they enjoyed their work. They mentioned many times how good the working atmosphere is at the hotel. And that's exactly what we saw - when staff are happy and dedicated they will deliver a high level of service and, in this case, the title of Best Hotel in Finland.

P.S. There’s no ‘resting on one’s laurels’ here!

Just because you’re the best in Finland, doesn't mean you can't find room for improvement. A little bird told us that Naantali’s next redevelopment is the entire spa department. Well, that’s sure to make a big splash!
