We all know that aunt, who already starts preparing for next Christmas just after the New Year, as well as the teenager who begins planning their next Ruisrock festival a year in advance. I also know a child, who begins to dream about the next trip to Moominworld as soon as they’ve crossed the bridge leaving from Moomin’s island.
It’s little wonder when Moominworld is a place, where children long to return.
In the early days, Moominworld was only open in summer. However, over the years the season has gradually extended to meet public demand but also Moominworld’s own efforts to make greater use of the fairy-tale valley on Kallio Island throughout the year. Beginning in autumn 2018, Moominworld follows the following cycle…
The summer season lasts almost three months. During this time, Moominworld is open every day, including during midsummer.
The autumn event was a new edition last fall. With the adventure of The Hobgoblin and the Missing King Ruby, Moominworld is open for as many as three weekends in October. The opening times are arranged for families across Finland, whose children will be on their autumn break at different times.
Winter Magic has been the winter event for over ten years already. It takes place during the eighth week of the year, the same time that schools in Southwest Finland have their skiing holiday.
Autumn holiday hit: The Hobgoblin and the Missing King Ruby
The autumn event creates a fabulous fairy tale environment, where families can enjoy Kaillo Island’s atmosphere and autumn nature – a particularly special season of the year. The sun might not be as bright but the weather is more than magical.
The central theme for Moominworld’s autumn event is Tove Jansson’s well-known story of the Hobgoblin and his missing king ruby, where audiences participate in the search. The main characters of the story, the Hobgoblin and the Panther, will be seen once again in Moominworld in the autumn of 2019.
So, what’s the story of The Hobgoblin and the Missing King Ruby all about?
“Everything begins when Moomintroll finds a black hat, which is later revealed to belong to the Hobgoblin,” explains Moominworld’s Ann-Karin Koskinen, without giving much away.
“Since the adventure comes during autumn, we wanted to make use of the different season reflected in the story. The Hobgoblin and his Panther are very dark and mysterious characters, so the autumn season suits them particularly well.”
The excitement of the magical theme continues at Snork’s Park of Discovery, where you’ll come across the Magician’s Workshop. In the workshop, dive into the fascinating world of magic tricks and learn a few spells for yourself.
Altogether, there will be six opening days during autumn: 12th–13th October, 17th–20st October as well as 26th–27th October.
