The summer kicks off with the Paavo Nurmi Festival, an annual celebration of sport dedicated to running legend Paavo Nurmi, which includes several different events. On Paavo’s Sports Day (5th-6th June), children can immerse themselves in the joy of sports at the Paavo Nurmi Stadium. On the eve of the Paavo Nurmi Games, the Paavo Nurmi Master / Junior Games (8th June) bring together young stars and master athletes aiming to write their names into the record books. The very next day (9th June) is Finland's toughest international athletics event, the Paavo Nurmi Games, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour competition series. Spectators can see top international names from the world of athletics, so be sure to get your ticket on time. The festival ends with the traditional Paavo Nurmi Marathon (22nd August)
And Turku’s Summer of Athletics is not over yet as the city becomes the stage for the Finnish Athletics Championships, with the Kaleva Games held at the Paavo Nurmi Stadium from 13th-18th August 2020. The Kaleva Games are the last chance for many athletes looking to reach the European Championships to showcase their talent, pushing the boundaries and excitement right to the end of summer.
