Turku, summer and athletics events. This winning combination will still come true, despite the small changes to the schedule made as a result of the spring’s pandemic. So it's true to say that August will now be an even more packed month for athletics in Turku!

August starts with the Paavo Nurmi Games (11th August), an event dedicated to Turku's own running deity, where fans watch live and up close the stars of world athletics go toe-to-toe at the legend’s own stadium. Finland's top-level international athletics competition is part of the International Athletics Federation’s World Athletics Continental Tour series. Spectators can see top international names from the world of athletics, so be sure to get your ticket on time.

Another event named after Turku’s running icon, the Paavo Nurmi Marathon (21st–22nd August), is a well-established tradition, where the local community stretch out along the course to cheer on the runners.

And Turku’s Summer of Athletics doesn’t end there as the city becomes the stage for the Finnish Athletics Championships, with the Kaleva Games held at the Paavo Nurmi Stadium from 13th-18th August 2020. The event is sure to be packed with agility and anticipation.
